Fiat Lux, Rewards and Driving Lessons
Recognising Student Achievement
Students are encouraged to work hard, and their efforts are acknowledged by both teachers and the KS5 Team through ‘Shout Outs’ in weekly assemblies.
Driving lessons
When students reach the age of 17, they are eligible to apply for a gift of £300 towards driving lessons. Students will be eligible if they demonstrate a good level of engagement and are making good progress in their studies. For more information on this, please email Mr Rosier at mrosier@dgsb.co.uk
Fiat Lux
In Year 12 we place a significant emphasis on the importance of participation in the wider school community. Students are expected to use their free periods in order to mentor younger students both academically and pastorally as well as running clubs and more. Students can access the ‘Fiat Lux’ timetable and choose an activity to engage with, receiving tokens for their efforts which can be exchanged for a range of different awards. These can include;
- Vouchers for local restaurants and eateries (including the sixth form central cafe)
- Bookable early afternoon finishes (where they might otherwise have a free period of study period)
- Travel mugs and stationery
And many more!
Prefects and wider school responsibilities
We endeavour to encourage student leadership and community engagement. Whilst in Year 12 students can apply to become members of the Prefect Team as well as Charity Ambassadors. It is the responsibility of these students to support during school events and help run our regular charity events. If chosen, students in these roles will have unique privileges including their own private study space within the school.
Trips and Events
Each year, as part of an initial team building activity we take all Year 12 students to ‘Boonies’, the assault course at Betteshanger Country Park. In Year 13 we hold a ‘Leavers Awards Ceremony’ as well as a leavers reward trip to Thorpe Park and ‘Goodbye and Goodluck BBQ’.
