Work Experience in the Sixth Form
In addition to the full careers programme that all students follow in the DGSB Sixth Form, all students complete a week of work experience in Year 12.
This is organised in partnership with EBP Kent who have links with many different companies throughout the Kent and Medway districts. This allows students to find placements with a company that is closely related to their desired career path or to explore an area that they are most interested in.
Students are supported in completing their work experience application by their form tutor in school. EBP Kent then finds a placement for each student. They do a full health and safety check for each employer, ensuring relevant risk assessments are in place and that students are fully prepared.
Each student is also provided with a work experience diary to complete during their placement to help them make the most of the information and employability skills they have developed and to encourage them to ask questions and consider which elements are most important for them moving forward as they start to think about university or other post-18 pathways.
The work experience week takes place after the Year 12 exams at the end of the academic year. This ensures that all students are able to fully focus on lesson content as they prepare for their exams and can then focus their attention on their work placement.
