Appeals Information
2025-2026 Intake
The offer of a school place will be sent via email after 4pm on Monday 3rd March 2025 by the Local Authority and posted by ourselves on Wednesday 5th March 2025. You must confirm if you wish to accept or refuse the place by Monday 17th March 2025.
If your child is due to start secondary school in September 2025 you can appeal between 1st March 2025 and Monday 31st March 2025 to guarantee that your appeal will be considered by Wednesday 18th June 2025. Any appeals received after this time will be heard within 40 school days from the deadline, or where reasonably possible, in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.
For late applications, appeals should be heard within 40 school days from the deadline for lodging appeals where possible, or within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged where reasonably possible in line with updated guidance from the Department for Education.
Completed appeals forms should either be sent by post to the Admissions Officer at the School's main address (we recommend recorded or special delivery) or, preferably, by email to admissions@dgsb.co.uk.

Thank you very much for your interest in Dover Grammar School for Boys. Entrance to DGSB is through successful completion of either the Kent Test or our own Dover Grammar School for Boys entrance test (Dover Boys Test).
Information will appear here during Term 5 regarding registration for the Dover Boys Test. This is for students looking to join Year 7 at the start of the 2026-2027 academic year.

If you feel that your son would be suited to a grammar school education, then you should complete and submit separate registration forms for the Kent Test by Monday 1st July 2024 and the Dover Boys Test by Friday 5th July 2024.
Applications submitted by this date will receive a confirmation letter by the end of July which will include arrival times for the test and a link to a familiarisation programme with sample questions. Late applications will not receive confirmation of entry for the Dover Boys Test until September.

In Year Admissions
There is no legal barrier to children being admitted outside of their normal age group. Requests for such admission should be made to the Headteacher as early as possible in the admissions round associated with their child’s date of birth.
Parents are not expected to provide evidence to support their request to defer an application, but where provided it must be specific to the child in question, and failure to provide it may impede the school’s ability to agree to deferral. Parents are required to complete an application for the normal point of entry at the same time, in case the request for deferred entry is declined.
Applicants of other ages will be tested to ascertain their ability in comparison to pupils already at the School in the appropriate cohort. If they are of at least the same standard & there are spare places available, they will be admitted.
As a grammar school, we will notify a parent in writing within 15 school days of their in-year application of either the date for the assessment of ability or the reason for refusal with information about the right of appeal (where the admission authority chooses not to assess the child’s ability because admitting an additional child would prejudice the provision of efficient education or efficient use of resources).

Free Preparation for the 11+ / Dover Test
Dover Grammar School for Boys is proud to be open to pupils from all backgrounds.
To encourage even greater representation of children at DGSB, we work in partnership with Atom Learning, the leading online Key Stage 2 learning and 11+ preparation platform, to provide students who are eligible for Pupil Premium with free online learning and 11+ exam preparation.
This programme is designed to help children get familiar with the type of questions they may see on the 11+ and build exam technique and confidence. They'll be able to access KS2 and 11+ practice questions, learning resources, and practice papers through their Atom Home account.
To gain access to these free materials, please fill in the short form by clicking the link below. Your child's primary school will then be sent an email to confirm their Pupil Premium status; as soon as this has been verified, they will gain free access to Atom Learning.
